Projects & Collaborations

  • Our discussion on AI and Digital Ethnography will continue as a fishbowl session at the AoIR 2026 annual conference in Mexico City, Mexico. Dr. Jeff Lane (DEWG co-chair) and Dr. Yonaira Rivera (steering committee) will be joined by Dr. Gabriele de Seta, Dr. Zhuofan Li, and Dr. Saskia Witteborn.

  • DEWG met with members of The Global Technology for Social Justice Lab (GloTech) for members to share current research projects and explore collaborations.

  • Dr. Jeff Lane (co-chair) guest edited a special issue of Qualitative Sociology on digital ethnography. Read it here.

  • DEWG collaborated with the Laboratory of Ethnographies of Technology and Digital Studies (LETEC) at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, for an online panel with Dr. Kamile Grusauskaite and Dr. Carolina Parreiras, moderated by our own Dr. Melissa Aronczyk.

  • Based on members’ work on a special issue of Qualitative Sociology, DEWG members hosted a fishbowl session at the AoIR 2023 annual conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

  • DEWG co-chairs Dr. Melissa Aronczyk and Dr. Jeff Lane hosted a Blue Sky session at the Annual International Communication Association Conference in 2022 in Paris, France titled “Digital ethnography: Methods for networked worlds.”
